What are the Virtues of Ramadan?
In a narration recorded by Imam Ahmad on the authority of Salman Al Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us on the last day of the month of Sha’ban and said, “O men, there has come upon you a great month, a blessed month, in it is ‘Laylatul Qadr’ which is better than a thousand months. Allah has made fasting in it obligatory and the night prayer therein a voluntary act of worship.
Whoever seeks to draw close to Allah therein with a good act, it is as though he has discharged an obligation in other months. Whoever discharges an obligation in it, it is as though he has carried out 70 obligations in other months.
It is a month of patience, and the reward for patience is paradise.
It is a month for accommodating and comforting people.
It is a month in which the sustenance of the believer increases.
Whoever provides for a fasting person so that he may break his fast, he would gain the reward of freeing a slave and attain forgiveness for his sins.” We (the Prophet’s companions) said, “Not all of us have the means to provide for a fasting person to break his fast.”
He (S) said, “Allah would give this reward to whoever who provides a gulp of milk or a drink of water or a date for the fasting person to break his fast, and whoever satiates the hunger of the fasting person, he would receive forgiveness for his sins, and his Lord would give him drink from my Fount (‘Al Hawdh’ on the Day of Judgment), after which he would suffer no thirst ever and he would receive the equivalent of the reward of the fasting person without any decrease in his reward.
It is a month, the beginning of which is mercy, the middle of it is forgiveness and the end of it is freedom from hellfire.
Whoever lightens the workload of his servant in it, Allah will free him from hellfire and so do a lot of 4 things in it. 2 acts with which you would please your Lord and 2 acts that you cannot do without.
As for the 2 acts with which you please your Lord, they are the testimony that there is no god besides Allah and the seeking of His forgiveness. As for the 2 acts that you cannot do without, you should seek paradise from your Lord and seek protection from hellfire.”

O Allah make us from those who have complete faith, perform all obligations, guard their prayers, give zakat, seek that which is due from You, hope for Your forgiveness, hold on firmly to guidance, turn away from futile acts, show no interest for worldly pleasures, desire the life of the hereafter, are pleased with the divine decree, are thankful for Your blessings, are patient during trials, would walk under the flag of our leader (sayyidina) Muhammad s.a.w. on the Day of Judgement, would arrive to the Prophet’s well (in the hereafter), would enter the Paradise, would be saved from the hellfire, would sit on the honoured mattresses (of paradise), would be married to the companions of Paradise, would be adorned with garments (of paradise) from Silk and Brocade, would eat from the food of Paradise, would drink from the milk and pure honey in the cups and goblets from the fountain of clear-water, in the company of those You bestow blessings upon them from amongst the Prophets, the righteous, the martyrs and the pious and what a great company do they make, and it is sufficient that Allah is All-Knowing, and praise be to Allah the Lord of all Worlds.
Supplication after Witr Prayers in Ramadan
After ending the Witr prayer, the Prophet s.a.w. would recite three times:
سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ
“Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy”
(Sunan An-Nasa’i)
Afterwards, we may also pray the following dua which is usually read in mosques after praying together in congregation. Ponder upon the meaning of this long and beautiful dua:
