Al-Habib Syech bin Abdul Qodir As-Segaf, affectionately known as Habib Syech, was born on September 20, 1961, into a family deeply rooted in Islamic scholarship. His father, Habib Abdul Qodir bin Abdurrahman as-Segaf, was not only his biological father but also his first and most influential teacher in matters of faith and spirituality. Growing up, Habib Syech was surrounded by the rich traditions of Islamic learning and spiritual practices, instilling in him a deep reverence for the teachings of Islam.
From a young age, Habib Syech displayed a keen interest in religious studies and sought knowledge from various esteemed scholars. One of his notable mentors was Habib Anis bin Alwi al-Habsyi, from whom he received valuable guidance and blessings. This early exposure to Islamic scholarship laid the foundation for Habib Syech’s lifelong dedication to promoting Islamic values and teachings.
Habib Syech’s journey in religious music, particularly in the genre of salawat, has been remarkable. His collaboration with the musical group Ahbaabul Musthofa has brought the beauty of Islamic melodies and praises of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to a global audience. Through his soulful renditions and heartfelt performances, he has touched the hearts of thousands, fostering a deep sense of love and devotion among his listeners.
Apart from his musical contributions, Habib Syech is actively involved in community and religious affairs. He holds a prominent position as the Deputy Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama, a renowned Islamic organization, where he continues to promote unity, tolerance, and the values of Islam.
In addition to his musical talents and community leadership, Habib Syech is also a devoted family man. He is blessed with five children named Fatimah, Muhammad Bagir, Umar, Abu Bakar, and Toha, and his wife is named Sayyidah binti Hasan Alhabsyi. Together, they embody the principles of love, compassion, and faith that are central to their lives and teachings.
Habib Syech’s impact extends beyond his musical performances; he is revered for his humility, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to serving humanity. His life and work serve as an inspiration to many, embodying the timeless values of Islam and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
