The Qurban or Udhiyah is a Sunnah Muakkadah (highly recommended act) according to the majority of Islamic scholars. One sacrifice is sufficient on behalf of all the family members especially for the head of the household.
The Qurban is a recommended act. It is also recommended that the performer of the Qurban sacrifices the animal himself. If unable, another may perform the sacrifice on behalf of the person performing the Qurban. It is also recommended that the person performing Qurban to witness the sacrifice itself and pray that Allah accepts that act as an ibadah. However, if one is also unable to witness the sacrifice, his/her act is still valid and it will, Insya Allah be accepted. This includes Ritual sacrifices done anywhere in the world.
The Australian meat will at the weekend of 16-17 July onwards. Participants will be informed regarding the collection & delivery schedule.
It is permissible to perform Qurban on any of the 3 days of Eid, whether on the first day of Eid al Adha or on the second or third day. Korban period for 2022 – Eidul Adha day (10 July) and the following 3 days of Tashrik (11-13 July).
Meat from Qurban animals should be distributed equally in three parts – family, friends and the poor. Taking into consideratin of maslahah and Siyasah syar’iyyah, scholars are of the opinion that both Muslims and non-Muslims can receive a portion of the meat meant for the poor.
If there are non-Muslims living in our neighbourhood and they are known to be kind in society and if there is an excess of the meat of animal sacrifice, then it is permissible to give it to them.
However, if the meat of animal sacrifice is just enough for Muslims, then the Muslims in need are prioritized.

It is possible to divide a cow into seven parts. Individuals may purchase any number of parts or an entire cow as part of Qurban.
The ruling for Qurban is sunnah mu’akkadah. It is sunnah for those who can afford it. And if you can afford to do it every year, hence you are welcome to do so, no ruling against it. Allah Almighty knows best.
Imams Abu Hanifah and Imam As-Shafi’i believes that the best sacrifice is a camel, then a cow, then a sheep, then to have a share in a cow. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said concerning Jumu’ah: “Whoever comes at the earliest hour, it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever comes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow. Whoever comes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram….” (Bukhari & Muslim).
However, the Prophet more regularly sacrificed rams as in the following hadiths:
It was narrated from ‘Aishah and Abu Hurairah that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wanted to offer a sacrifice, he brought two large, fat, horned, black-and-white, castrated rams. He slaughtered one on behalf of his nation, for whoever testified to Allah with monotheism and that he had conveyed (the Message), and he slaughtered the other on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad (ﷺ). [Sunan Ibn Majah]
Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to offer two rams as sacrifices, and I also used to offer two rams. [Bukhari]
Hence, most importantly is to perform the act of Qurban or sacrifice to the best of your capability, within your means, whether it is the goat/sheep or cow/camel. It is the intention and the personal struggle that matters to Allah. Allahu’ alam.
The ruling for slaughtering the sacrificial animal is sunnah done by the person who wants to perform the sacrifice. However, those who are unable to carry it out themselves are more encouraged to delegate to others to slaughter their Qurban animal on their behalf. It is our responsibility to do it to the best of our abilities, and to distribute it to where people need it most.
“When you see the new moon of Dzulhijjah and any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain (from cutting) his hair and nails.” – Narrated by Muslim.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving meat from the udhiyah or Qurban to a non-Muslim, especially if he/she is a relative, neighbour or a needy/poor person. That is indicated by the verse in which Allah, may He be exalted, says:
“Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.” [al-Mumtahinah 60:8]
In a hadith:
Mujahid reported that a sheep was slaughtered for ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr. He asked his slave, “Have you given any to our Jewish neighbour? Have you given any to our Jewish neighbour? I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, ‘Jibril kept on recommending that I treat my neighbours well until I thought that he would order me to treat them as my heirs.
For the purpose of adapting a more humanitarian approach in implementing our qurban sacrifices, we have stopped taking and issuing photographs of the Qurban act. With the number of Qurban orders across 18 countries increasing yearly, the task of slaughtering and distributing the meat within the days of tashriq is time consuming.
We would have general Qurban photos of each country that we perform the Qurban act. Once our entire Qurban is completed, which might take the entire of the tashriq days, we would send each customer a certificate of Qurban completion. The qurban meat (except Australia) will be distributed to the poor and needy in the countries concerned. Meat from the Qurban exercise in Australia will be flown to Singapore within days, and will be distributed according to the order.
Yes it can be done. The basic principle concerning the udhiyah, Qurban or sacrifice is that it is prescribed for the living, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his Companions used to offer the sacrifice on behalf of themselves and their families. The following are the 3 scenarious and conditions to perform the sacrifice on behalf of the deceased:
1. To offer the sacrifice on behalf of the deceased in fulfillment of their last wishes (wasiyyah).
This is obligatory except in the case of one who is unable to do it. The basis for this is the verse in which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Then whoever changes the bequest after hearing it, the sin shall be on those who make the change. Truly, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.” [al-Baqarah 2:181]
2. To offer the sacrifice on behalf of the deceased as well as of the living.
Such as when someone offers a sacrifice on behalf of himself/herself and the members of his/her family, and intends thereby both those who are alive and deceased. This is permissible, and the basis of that is the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the sacrifice on behalf of himself and the members of his family, including those who have been deceased.
3. To offer the sacrifice on behalf of the dead voluntarily and independently of the living.
Such as offering a separate sacrifice on behalf of one’s father or mother. This is permissible. The Hanbali jurists have stated that the reward for that will reach the deceased and benefit him/her, by analogy with giving charity on behalf of the deceased.
According to the Hanafi school, multiple people cannot discharge their obligation of Udhiyyah by sacrificing an eligible lamb or sheep as Udhiyyah. At most, this would be regarded as Nafl and rewarding, but not sufficient to discharge the obligatory Udhiyyah.
Only cows and camels can be split into 7 parts (or shares) due to their being clear evidence from the Ahadith. However, in regard to sheep or similar smaller animals (eg goat), there is no such evidence.
As for the Shafi’is, the Udhiyyah or Qurban ritual is a Sunnah Muakkadah (Emphasised Sunnah). As long as the family can afford, one sheep is sufficient as sacrifice for the head of household to conduct on behalf of his/her family, or whoever he wants among the Muslims.
Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: I witnessed sacrificing along with the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) at the place of prayer. When he finished his sermon, he descended from his pulpit, and a ram was brought to him. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) slaughtered it with his hand, and said: In the name of Allah, Allah, is Most Great. This is from me and from those who did not sacrifice from my community.
