At the age of 40, Prophet Muhammad, Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him, sacrificed his blood, sweat and tears for the sake of spreading Islam, secretly and publicly. Along with his wife, Siti Khadija, may Allah be pleased with her, and his Companions, they sought to complete their ultimate mission for the sake of Allah the Most Glorious.
Today, more and more non-Muslims are curious to know and understand Islam as well as its prominent figure, the Prophet, Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him, himself. Many have commended the Prophet’s noble characters and the virtues he embodied for the whole Ummah to emulate. Here are just some of the few distinguished people who made positive remarks in regards to our beloved Prophet:
The CEO of AirAsia, Tony Fernandes commented on Imam Tirmidhi’s al-Shama’il al-Muhammadiyah:
“Using some of my spare time to understand my brothers, sisters and their religion. Time for all of us to understand and learn and be tolerate. Amazing book. Use your time to improve yourself and learn more.”
“I wanted to know the best of one who holds today undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind. I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission,” – Mahatma Gandhi, an anti-colonial nationalist
‘In his private dealings he was just. He treated friends and strangers, rich and poor, the powerful and weak, with equity and was beloved by the common people for the affability with which he received them, and listened to their complaints.” – Washington Irving, American author
“Muhammad was not an apparent failure. He was a dazzling success, politically as well as spiritually, and Islam went from strength to strength to strength,” – Karen Armstrong, British author and commentator
“I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence which can make itself appeal to every age. I have studied him – the wonderful man and in my opinion far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity,” – Sir George Bernard Shaw, an American playwright
One thing all of the figures have in common is their curiosity or inquisitiveness to embrace the knowledge of Islam which is heavily linked to the Prophet’s outstanding virtues, a manifestation of what Islam is all about. For centuries, people have been drowning in the abyss of ‘jahiliah’ or ignorance and they finally found light in one person who had to carry a huge responsibility to spread it to the entire world.
As Muslims, we should have the knowledge and passion to study about our Prophet deeply as this bring solace to one’s heart and increase their love towards him. May Allah the Merciful guide us towards understanding the true essence of infinite Love.
