He, salAllahu \u2018alayhi wasallam placed his hand on Abdullah\u2019s shoulder and said, \u201cKun fid-dunya ka\u2019annaka ghareeb aw \u2018aabir as-sabeel\u201d, which translates as \u201cBe in this world as a stranger or a wayfarer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shaykh Faraz then relates the term \u201cstranger\u201d used, to being a seeker.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cBe a seeker. Be a stranger,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>His sessions was intended to cover 40 counsels for seekers of guidance.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">10 Counsels on Seeking:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Life isn\u2019t about you. And bring to witness two just men from among you and establish the testimony for [the acceptance of] Allah . That is instructed to whoever should believe in Allah and the Last day. And whoever relies upon Allah &#8211; then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.<\/em> [65:3]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)\u00a0 The meaning and purpose of life is seeking Allah, by Allah.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Know:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The worshipper<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Worshipped<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The act of worship<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What is expressed by that act of worship<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)\u00a0 To seek Allah \u2013 seek knowledge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>To seek right, you must see right<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)\u00a0 The purpose of knowledge is Allah and not knowledge itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Means are by their ends. The point of knowledge is WHY you seek it.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)\u00a0 Beneficial knowledge draws one closer to Allah SWT.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beneficial knowledge is knowledge of Allah; submission of Allah, outward and inward \u2013 of character, conduct and of those states pleasing to Allah.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)\u00a0 True knowledge increases one in Muhammadan character and concern.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Knowledge, remembrance, spiritual routines and spiritual striving.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7)\u00a0\u00a0 True knowledge is sought through the Prophet\u2019s inheritors. Seek them out, and seek in them Muhammadan character.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Read on the character of the Prophet salAllahu \u2018alayhi wasallam and choose a teacher that reminds you most of him.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/muzlimbuzz.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/IMG_0988.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4426\" title=\"IMG_0988\" src=\"http:\/\/muzlimbuzz.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/IMG_0988-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"477\" height=\"717\" srcset=\"https:\/\/simplyislam.sg\/muslimbuzz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/IMG_0988-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/simplyislam.sg\/muslimbuzz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/IMG_0988-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 477px) 100vw, 477px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>8)\u00a0 True knowledge is sought in steady steps.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Seek purposefully : with consistency<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Seek gradually: with sustenance<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge is what remains, not what was sought.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>9)\u00a0 Seek Allah in your knowledge, through your knowledge and by your knowledge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Through acting upon it, through preserving it, and transmitting it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>10) Never stop seeking.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Remain steadfastly committed<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do the best that you can<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be of glad tidings<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Strive for perfection &amp; complete uprightness<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>10 Counsels on Faith (Iman)<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 God is the One free of need of any other, whom all are in absolute need of.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Alone worthy of worship: The Creator, The Unique, The Sustainer \u2013 The Necessary Existent<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0 Oneness entails absolute transcendence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beyond time, beyond space, beyond similitude.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 Affirm and negate what Allah has affirmed and negates about Himself.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Leave excessive literalism = Over-affirmation<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Leave excessive rationalism = Over-negation<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0 Learn faith with clarity. Nurture faith through devotion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mere study does not nurture faith. Iman is nurtured through Islam.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00a0 Neediness is your essential reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Know yourself and you\u2019ll know God.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Know your reality. Existing state in all of reality = Perishingness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6)\u00a0 Destiny is affirms. Responsibility is confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Eye of Iman: How does this relate to Allah?<\/p>\n<p>Eye of responsibility: What are the right choices to be made?<\/p>\n<p>If we\u2019re only looking with one eye, we\u2019re not looking at the full reality.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7)\u00a0\u00a0 Acquire the qualities of faith: Hope &amp; fear, reliance &amp; trust, love &amp; thankfulness.<\/p>\n<p>Qualities of faith = Character with Allah<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8)\u00a0 Remembrance nurtures faith. Supplication expresses faith.<\/p>\n<p>Remembrance: affirmations, conformations and realizations.<\/p>\n<p>Supplication: affirmations, neediness, certitude and contentment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9)\u00a0 True faith is beholding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>To worship Allah as though you behold Him.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To realize that He is with you wherever you may be<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That He is close to you than you are to yourself.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>10)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beholding is attained through watchfulness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Watchfulness requires mindfulness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mindfulness requires sound submission.<\/p>\n<p><em>Levels of faith<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mere faith: Accepting Truth<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 True faith: Living Truth<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Perfected faith: Beholding Truth<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">10 Counsels on Submission (Islam)<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Seek Allah through submission of the heart and limbs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Actions are lifeless forms whose reality is in the subtle reality of sincerity they\u2019re in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sincerity: Seeking Allah (in it)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0 Submission of the heart is through sincerity in worship, conduct and states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beware of limiting Allah through your prayer mat and prayer beads.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 The first step of submission is to enter into a state of obedience in all of one\u2019s states.<\/p>\n<p>Abu Hurayra said that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, &#8220;<em>Allah Almighty said, &#8216;I have declared war on anyone who shows enmity to a friend of Mine. <strong>My slave does not draw near to Me with anything I love more than what I have made obligatory on him. And my slave continues to draw near to Me with superogatory actions until I love him.<\/strong> When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. If he were to ask Me for something, I would give it to him. If he were to ask Me for refuge, I would give him refuge.&#8217;<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[al-Bukhari]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0 True submission is embracing Prophetic excellence in all one\u2019s actions and states.<\/p>\n<p>The reality of the Sunna: Every Sunna is a form of seeking Allah.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00a0 Seek to make your worship valid, sound and proper \u2013 outwardly and inwardly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>There is a Sunna of following the Sunna.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Validity &amp; Soundness<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Propriety &amp; Perfection<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Outward &amp; Inward: Sincerity &amp; Remembrance<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6)\u00a0 Know the Limits of Allah and Prophetic excellence related to all actions and life situations before you act.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Knowledge: Gives you clarity, dispels confusion<\/p>\n<p>-Action: Not only what you do, but how you respond<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7)\u00a0\u00a0 When unsure, ask&#8230; Before you act.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Consideration, Consultation, Clarification &amp; Confirmation<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Asking is strength, not weakness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8)\u00a0 Caution is a virtue. Caution requires knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Caution: Being careful to do what is more likely to be pleasing to Allah.<\/p>\n<p>Part of caution is to know when to be cautions ; when there is sufficient cause to be cautious.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9)\u00a0 Learn a madhhab. Follow it. Avoid dispensations unless there is a clear need, benefit or hardship.<\/p>\n<p>-Following a madhhab gives you a general statement of conduct.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Never give absolute answers. Actions have considerations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excellence in submission entails seeking the greatest, widest, and most lasting benefit in life &#8211; for yourself and others&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The strong believer:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Does not second guess<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Is an \u2018abid of all that is benefits (most-lasting benefits)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Seeks Allah\u2019s Assistance<\/p>\n<p>-Does not deem themselves incapable<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shaykh Faraz covered 10 counsels on spirituality (Ihsan) without specific reference to counsel points due to the lack of time.<\/p>\n<p>A spiritual path is the path of Ihsan, the path of seeking good.<\/p>\n<p>Spiritual excellence is the counsel on seeking.<\/p>\n<p>It is to recognize your neediness to Allah and to strive to attain the path of Allah SWT.<\/p>\n<p>Islamic spirituality: Know Allah, then be as you wish.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing Allah \u2013 is the ma\u2019rifah of Allah SWT, to have active consciousness which is also the purpose of life. Everything else are approximations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Do that which will nurture your presence with Allah<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To transit into speaking about the love for Allah, Shaykh Faraz shared the story of a righteous who dreamt of Majnun after Majnun had died.<\/p>\n<p>He asked Majnun, \u201cWhat did Allah do with you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Majnun replied, \u201cHe Forgave me and made me a proof of love for the lovers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shaykh Faraz defines true belief as love.<\/p>\n<p>Love for the Messenger salAllahu \u2018alayhi wasallam is a love from Allah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Anything lovable should be loved for Allah.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ihsan is making Allah, your one love.<\/p>\n<p>The paths to Allah SWT vary in their spiritual emphasis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The point is to be righteous, not be with the righteous. You want to attain what they attain.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>What do you seek from a Shaykh? To seek Allah and the prophetic way.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion of his sessions during the retreat, Shaykh Faraz leaves us with an invaluable tip:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Live the Sunna and seek consistency. Establish spiritual routines in a spiritual manner.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[divider]<\/p>\n<p>Shaykh Faraz Rabbani delivers knowledge with much clarity and compactness. His humorous stories of the fictional characters, \u201cZubair &amp; Zubaidah\u201d while discussing relevant topics were energizing and would bring about laughter from the seekers.
