We&#8217;re always the bad people that the good American soldiers or CIA is trying to fight,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/entertainment\/green-lantern-0-introduces-new-muslim-arab-american-super-hero-a-major-milestone-comics-article-1.1151433\" target=\"_hplink\">Sarsour told the<em>New York Daily News<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, for the first time in comic-book history, America has an Arab-American superhero. Meet the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps: Simon Baz. The new Muslim-American superhero even has a cool Arabic tattoo on the same arm as his Lantern ring, further emphasizing his divergence from the more traditional<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/comics\/green-lantern-2011\/green-lantern-0\" target=\"_hplink\">mainstream DC Comics lineup<\/a>. The tattoo means &#8216;courage,&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2198342\/Green-Lantern-introduces-new-Muslim-Arab-American-super-hero.html\" target=\"_hplink\">according to the\u00a0<em>Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To finally have the opportunity where the Arab-American can be the super hero, to be the one who saves people, is a lot more powerful an image,&#8221; Sarsour told the\u00a0<em>New York Daily News.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, Baz still has a bit of a dark side. &#8220;He&#8217;s not a perfect character. He&#8217;s obviously made some mistakes in his life, but that makes him more compelling and relatable,&#8221; says DC Comics&#8217; Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. &#8220;Hopefully (it&#8217;s) a compelling character regardless of culture or ethnic background. &#8230; But I think it&#8217;s great to have an Arab-American superhero. This was opportunity and a chance to really go for it,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2198342\/Green-Lantern-introduces-new-Muslim-Arab-American-super-hero.html\" target=\"_hplink\">Johns told the\u00a0<em>Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Baz is also quintessentially American, being raised in Dearborn, Mich.,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/article\/20120905\/ENT05\/309050003\/Arab-American-superhero-writer-to-visit-Dearborn-comic-store-and-museum?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE%7Cp\" target=\"_hplink\">according to the\u00a0<em>Detroit Free Press<\/em><\/a>. Dearborn is home to both Ford Motors and to the largest Arab-American population in the country. Baz&#8217;s character is an out-of-work auto engineer who becomes ends up as a car thief before the Green Lantern ring chooses him to be a &#8220;cosmic cop,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/life\/comics\/story\/2012-09-05\/Simon-Baz-Arab-American-Green-Lantern\/57594766\/1\" target=\"_hplink\">according to\u00a0<em>USA Today<\/em><\/a>.
