Should you not gain your wants, my soul, then be not grieved;<\/p>\n
But hasten to that banquet which your Lord\u2019s bequeathed.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And when a thing for which you ask is slow to come,<\/p>\n
Then known that often through delay are gifts received.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Find solace in privation and respect its due,<\/p>\n
For only by contentment is the heart relieved.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And know that when the trials of life have rendered you<\/p>\n
Despairing of all hope, and of all joy bereaved,<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then shake yourself and rouse yourself from heedlessness,<\/p>\n
And make pure hope a meadow that you never leave.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Your Maker\u2019s gifts take subtle and uncounted forms.<\/p>\n
How fine the fabric of the world His hands have weaved.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The journey done, they came to the water of life,<\/p>\n
And all the caravan drank deep, their thirst allieved.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Far be it from the host to leave them thirsty there,<\/p>\n
His spring pours forth all generosity received.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My Lord, my trust in all Your purposes is strong,<\/p>\n
That trust is now my shield; I\u2019m safe, and undeceived.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
All those who hope for grace from You will feel\u00a0 Your rain;<\/p>\n
Too generous are You to leave my branch unleaved.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
May blessings rest upon the loved one, Muhammad,<\/p>\n
Who\u2019s been my means to high degrees since I believed.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He is my fortress and my handhold, so my soul,<\/p>\n
Hold fast, and travel to a joy still unconceived.<\/p>\n
