I am sure by now many people might already know Vintage Delicafe as a Halal establishment in town but for those who don’t, this is a good place to dine at! Went down with my family so that more dishes can be reviewed, heh. I know in most food reviews, readers just want straight-up information and photos so that’s the general structure of how my review is going to be!
Vintage Delicafe
Overall Review – 3.5 / 5
Type of food – Mainly Western
Location:
This place is a quintessential mix of homely and vintage style with a tad of Malay flavour to it. Convenient location as we all know where Bussorah St is; for those who don’t, it’s just opposite Kampong Glam Cafe and a 2 minute walk from Masjid Sultan :)
Ambience:
Great place to have a long dinner with friends or family. Indoor and outdoor seating available. However baby chairs weren’t provided for the toddler we brought along. Decor is tasteful and it’s really a mix and match of things.
Service:
More often than not, their service lets them down. We weren’t attended immediately when we arrived and their servers visited our table sparsely, although most of the servers were friendly :) The food took pretty long to come, however that would be okay for those dinners where you guys would have so much to talk about among one another. A plus point would be that they checked if everything was in perfect order after all the food came so thumbs up for that!
Drinks:
Pots of tea available for drinking. Fresh and came with the appropriate condiments.
From left to right: Iced Soursop, Lime and Iced Mocha
Drinks were all satisfactory!
So here’s the important part: Food!
Grilled Dory: Flavoursome (could taste the paprika and Italian mixed herbs), good portion, dory was cooked well and mashed potato was yummy
Nero De Sepia – Pasta with calamari in squid ink
Full of flavours; the taste of the squid ink was wonderful but the texture of the pasta was a bit of a let down.
Black Pepper Pasta (Seafood) – My mum liked this a lot and finished it, although she’s not much of a eater so it must have been good! Pasta here was cooked well, truly homemade taste
Carbonara – This one was a bit flat and was a bit tawar (flat or not salty enough in Malay). The pasta was a bit overcooked. But again, flavoursome!
Spaghetti Bolognaise – The classic dish! And what I came here for actually! Always my favourite dish at Vintage Delicafe and I have nothing but good words for it! Generous portion, FULL of flavour; herbs, tomato base, meat all mixed wonderfully to produce one of the best spaghettis (personally). Love their spag and I always keep on going for more. YUM!
$$$$:
Value for money! Portions are huge so if one serving is too big for the small eaters, you can share.
Here is the link for the menu to gauge their costs:
Please reserve your seats because in case you may not get a space for walk-ins.
Plus Points: HUGE portions, yummy food, value for $, friendly staff, wide selection of food
Minus Point: Slow service
So that’s all for this review folks! Till the next review, InsyaAllah!
