Public Lecture: Etiquette Before Knowledge
The Islamic tradition teaches us that both students of sacred knowledge and their teachers have lofty principles and refined codes of conduct that must be adhered to in order to ensure that they can truly achieve virtue through their knowledge and that Allah opens up for them (fut??) the full extent of wisdom and perception.
Workshop: Sublime Characteristics of Prophet Muhammad
This workshop is based on an indispensable collection of Prophetic traditions (hadith) related to the Prophet’s, peace be upon him, blessed nature, traits and characteristics. It was compiled by the eminent Imam al-Tirmidhi (d. 892) in a collection known as Shama’il Muhammadiyah. The Shama’il contains deals with all spheres of the Prophet’s life from his honourable outer appearance and characteristics like his bodily features and clothing; to his hallowed inner traits such as his humility and humour. Insha’Allah the speaker will present some awe-inspiring and exalted traits and characteristics of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
Public Lecture: Marvels of the Heart
This lecture is a discussion of the section entitled “Marvels of the Heart” from the book Ihya Ulumuddin (“Revival of Religious Sciences”) written by the eminent scholar of Islam, Imam Al-Ghazali (d. 1111). Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, “Beware, in the body there is a flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt, and behold, it is the heart.” Certainly, the condition and station of the heart is such an important topic of understanding, that it is referred to countless number of times in the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad.
